balustersJust how many is there to make a deck railing.

The right answer is, how many ways can you make it right. Meaning, it has to meet code as well. You can make a strong and very nice looking railing and still fail inspection. And even if you meet all this dosent mean it's right. Lets look at this way, say you use bad (cheap cut) I see deck builders use a 5 1/4 decking for the top railing. This looks great, I do the same thing when I build a deck. The difference is that I'll screw it down every six inches, and center it over the post. This way it wont flex and split. And trust me I go back the following year to check back on my deck installs. For me to replace a few boards for a bucks is well worth the happy customer. And it also makes sure that I did it right the first time. Don't be disappointed the following year if this happens to you.

You didn't grow the tree and make the wood. Some wood and curl so bad that it can snap the screws right off. Just how many ways to make a railing is up to you. Just remember the code in your area, most are min height from decking of 32" lagged in post every 8 feet and balusters no more then 4" apart. . I will make and post awhole deck building video very soon.
