Drain Smell 2 Months ago
I am getting a smell through a bathtub drain. I would like to remove the trap but I don't think I can remove this completely (see pic). It doesn't seem to be clogged but I'd like to clean the trap anyway. Any suggestions?
thanks,
Bob

it seams the plumber has your trap half glued and half not. Hummm. OK the drain smell is more then likely because you have positive venting going on as well as the placement of the trap. The trap seams to be too high. If you can, lower the whole drain creating the trap to be not as close to the tube as it is now. By doing this you will be able to make it that the trap could be just unscrewed and cleaned. To where now it's glued on the top. Also if you can try to determine how far away the vent line is to your drain. Or if this drain goes into a much larger pipe. If your venting is not good enough this will cause the water in your trap to be pulled out and BAMM there's your smell. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dominick, It does go into a bigger pipe. Just so you know, I live in a double wide (mobile home) where most everything is built as cheaply as possible.
