KITCHEN CABINETS - by: R GILBERT

My kitchen cabinets are terribly scratched and dented (from utensils and even finger nails) They were custom made when the house was built, 6 years ago, but the wood is a very soft pine Not my choice!!. Now I'm stuck with them and trying to make them look better!! The facing behind the doors is the worst.I have a lot of experience refinishing furniture..and I know the problem is the soft wood..any ideas on how I can make them look better..short of replacing.......

This a hard one. Or should I say "soft" one. Pine is really not a good choice as we know for kitchen cabinets. But since you have them already I would have to say the only thing you can do here is refinish them by sanding out your scratches and marks. Or you can replace the doors and draw fronts. But since they were custom made finding the right sizes could be near impossible.

You could also fill in your scratches, sand and paint them.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you but what we have to deal with there aren't to many fixes.

Regards... Dominick
