Hey Domnick

I plan on building a computer desk. What wood would you recommend I use ? And how would I achieve a smooth finish ?

This would all depend on what kind of finish your looking for. I would think you would want to use either a oak or birch plywood. For the most part this plywood comes in a ACX. the A stands for smooth. Make sure you use a good saw blade and then buy either oak or birch edging band for the edges of the plywood. And of course sand it when your done, always sand with the grain for a smoother finish.
