how do I prep old barnwood before useing it for projects.

Preparing old barn wood can be alot of work to say the least. It really all depends on what you want to use it for. Of course the first thing would be to remove all nails and any ting metal. If you trying to make the wood look as close as new as you can then you would use a planner and plane both sides. As well as a jointer for the edges. Cleaning the wood if this is what you meant can be done by sanding, but be carful for lead based paint, can can also try a deck cleaner in a bug sprayer. Perhaps if you tell me what your looking to use the wood for I can provide you with more detail...
