How far from the house could the compressor be placed? Is it necessary to have close to the house? When wielding the pipes on the compressor is it the same solder use for water pipes.

The shorter the distance the better, but it can be any distance within reason.

NO, the solder used for water pipes is tin and lead based. For A/C you would use a silver based solder.

by better, do you mean more efficient. when I use the silver based solder do I sweat it the same as I do with water piping

The silver will hold up the intense pressure and not corrode. No to solder silver you have to get it much hotter then if you were soldering lead solder per say. which means you have to use a special tip on a acetylene torch. This type of soldering uses no flux, and a much hotter connection..
