Gutters - Repairing

Do you use a [[gutter nail]] or screws made for a gutter ?

gutter_nail.jpg

If you have really good aim with that hammer then nails mite not be so bad. But just think one miss and your gutter is damaged. With screws, screws made for gutters work much better and are easy to install.

Sagging gutters.

If you have sagging gutters chances are that they are not draining properly. and this would be a bad thing. What you want is a about 1/4 inch per 10 feet pitch.

Lets say your installing a gutter on the front of you garage about 20 feet worth. The end that will not have the down spout installed, this end you will want to install right up to the roofing, while the down spout end will be lower. Install nails or screws about every 2 feet.

Now this is the important part. Once you start the decent on your gutter always make sure that you don't go back up (making a hill) this way once the water is in the gutter it will continue to move downwards.

Now of course if you were to install a gutter on a much longer span you would install the gutter with it's highest point in the middle while pitching it down from there. This method you would use down spouts on both ends

Gutter sagging

Gutters can sag for a few reasons, one because the screws or nails holding the gutter on have come off or the fascia (wood) behind the gutter became rotten in which case would have to be replaced or a quicker but not better fix, relocate the nail or screw.
