How to estimate vinyle siding

siding.jpgFiguring the right amount of siding is actually very easy.

A few things to know first.

1) Vinyl siding comes in 12 foot lengths.

2) All accessorises also come in 12 foot lengths.

3)Siding is sold by a builder square. Which is 100 square feet.

example: 10 feet by 10 feet.

Lets say you have a two level house and it's 50 long. No measuring the 50 is easy but measuring the height will be a little bit more involved. Well you all know that you have eight floor ceilings, right. Let's do this, you have the floor joist for the first floor, the floor joist for the second and each on is about 12 inches, x 2 plus your two levels (walls) @ 8 feet (96 inches)

cold house

Here is a list of items that you should check..

If you have a boiler heater (hot water) check and make sure the temperature settings are right. The high side should be no higher then 190 degrees and the low should be around 175. This will save you a lot. What you don't want is you heater coming on when the temperature is to low. This means your heater will be on longer and working harder, so it's very important to have these setting right and right for your house. Also make sue you have your filters changed. Not just checked, but replaced.

Boiler settings There is something called "Delta T" what this means is when the hot water leaves your boiler it's as hot as the high side temperature setting of your boiler, say 190 degrees, it then runs the course threw your heaters getting colder and colder and then returning back to your boiler to run the whole course again. But when this colder water comes back it should not be less then 40 degrees warmer. The best way is to go out and buy one of those laser pointer temperature gauges...

paint_cans.jpgOne of the biggest obstacles in painting any room is buying the right amount of paint. This greatly depends on how you will be painting your room. And of course how many coats you need. Use the chart below to help you buy the right amount of paint the first time. This wouldn't be so bad if the paint was just bought off the shelf, but if your like the most of us you bought a nice color that you had mixed...

How to replace a circuit breaker. For the most part this is something that should be done by a licensed electrician. But hey you can do it. But if you're scared go hit the yellow pages. LOL
