Installing tile. Get ready, here I will explain how to install ceramic tile. OK, got that, first thing your going to do is figure your layout, and try to start with a full tile at the entrace however you don't want to end up with a sliver at the end. In most cases slit the difference from the first to the last last in line. Same will go for the left side to the right side of the room. Think about the space you want between the tile. This will be the grout line. I use these little rubber white spacers you can buy from your Home Depot. Do not lay these flat down, but stand them up o top of the tile. So instead of using one spacer at the intersection of four tiles you will use four of them. I will get a picture for you real soon. OK, lets mix some thin set, this is the Mortar type stuff we use to set tile. I mix thin set with a mixer paddle you can buy from your Home Depot on a drill. Or you can do it by hand, ouch. Mix it until it looks think peanut butter. Now using a 1/4 by 1/4 notch trowel. Spread the thin set on the floor, very important that you don't use to much, it will squeeze up inbetween the tile. You always want to make sure the thin set stays lower then the tile surface. How I set tile is the I lay edge to edge and then lay it down. I sqaure it up then, I give it a smack. for what ever reason there was something under the tile the tile will break. Why do this then you say. It's a lot easier to fix it now then later.
Ok, another big one. once a tile is set it's done. I mean you have a little time to play with it but thin set dosn't realy dry, it's cures. Once this process starts you have to leave it alone. Trust me the tile will POP. Maybe not this week, but soon.. That's it your almost done. See grouting in this section to finish up. Related Items:
