Sealing your house

For now lets forget about the fact that completely sealing your house would be a bad thing. Your house already has so many air leaks that it would really surprise you. Even if your house is brand new you have leaks. Here is what I did to my house when I built it...

When I framed my house I caulk all the plates to the floor. By plates I mean the bottom long board of the exterior wall framing to the wood floor it is built on. I also sealed with a tar tape all the windows and doors from the outside before installing the siding of course.

I even just framed my basement just so I could insulate the cold concrete walls. Even though me basement isn't heated I wanted to prevent as much cold air from entering as much as possible.

You my old house was much older and smaller, it was only 1100 square feet and my new one is over 3000 square feet. The long of the short is that it coast less to heat my heat new house then my old one.  Please feel free to ask any question below...
