Building a wood privacy fence in florida 10 Months ago
I am looking at building a 4 ft wood privacy fence in florida. I am about 6 miles from the beach at New Smryna and I am concern as to how to build a fence that will last. I have heard from a number of contractors, some say put the 4x4s in concrete, some say do not. Some say just put the corners in. Some conctractors look at 8ft intervals some 6 foot. I just would like to build a good fence that will last a while preferably longer then 6 years

Hi Rich, this is always a big question, concrete or no concrete. The answer is simple. If your putting the fence up in a hi wind area I would use concrete for every post or at least every other. But for the most part you want to make sure of the type of ground you have. If you have a lot of rocks in the ground this would make the ground stronger for blow over. As well it really depends on the fence you're planning to install. Meaning an open horse fence would not catch the wind as much as a solid or semi solid privacy fence. The corners of a fence are much stronger in general because of the adjoining two other fences. If you have any gates and at the ends I would always use concrete. Also always no matter what make sure a post is at least two feet in the ground. I hope this helped you, if you need any further help please feel free to ask.

Regards... Dominick
