			<title>Laminate Floor Installation</title>
			<link>http://www.askmediy.com/Flooring/Laminate-Flooring/Laminate-Flooring.html#comment-31</link>
			<description>Hi Dominick!

Beautiful site! I really appreciate this information.
I'm starting a laminate floor installation in my basement this week. I have my underlay, vapour barrier etc and all my laminate. Tonight i layed down a few boards to see how things would fit before i get started.

Here is my question:

My starting wall is 16'4&quot; long. As it turns out, i can lay out 4 full boards and i am left with around 4-5&quot; left. My question of course is what would be the best way to handle this? It looks like ill end up using 4 boards plus around 4-5&quot; of a 5th board. I know that i cannot cut a piece this short, so iam wondering, what would be the best way to cut this starting row? Cut the 4th board in half and then make up the difference with the 5th?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks

<description>Hi Dan, don't worry about those dents in the slap. No biggie at all. You could use a concrete caulk if you like. As far as what direction to start with is a tuff one. Usually I like to run the floor perpendicular to the hall using short pieces. Always start in the same direction and end in the same direction. This way it will look better and you will avoid using any thresholds.

When laying laminate floor in long runs it's best to have another helper to help locking them in, or just take your time and go slow.

			<title>Question about Laminate</title>
			<link>http://www.askmediy.com/Flooring/Laminate-Flooring/Laminate-Flooring.html#comment-8</link>
			<description>Hi Dominick,
I'm just taking the old carpet out now and I have a couple of quick questions, if you have a moment.

First, Taking out the tackboards is leaving some dents in the slab. Am I doing it wrong? I'm prying out the nails holding down the tackboards with a prybar. I'm going to have to fill those in. What should I use?

Second, I have a short hallway connecting to a large room that I'm going to do completely in laminate. Should I start lengthwise in the hallway and continue on into the room all the way across, or should I change directions once I get to the room? I'm just wondering if the length of the runs will be problematic from the hallway all the way across. I'm wondering if I need a threshold there.

Thanks again,
Dan - Dan Lovejoy</description>
