1/8 inch ply wood stapled to sub floor..??? 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Your video's on Youtube have helped me in every project i have done. thanks!

i am installing laminate wood flooring. The snap together kind. I pulled up the carpet and noticed there is a 1/8 inch piece of plywood under the linoleum in my kitchen and bathroom. This is stapled to the sub floor with the linoleum glued on top. (wood subfloor)

is this normal? I would have liked to put the new floor right over the existing linoleum but now i am guessing i need to tear up the 1/8 inch ply wood stapled to the sub floor so it's level.

have you ever seen this? suggestions?

Thanks!

Anthony

Sure, this is very normal. This is done in order to give the linoleum a smooth finish.

Removing this 1/4 plywood would be the better choice if you can remove it to ensure seamless transitions. Or you would have to install 1/4 plywood over the the rest of the floor, but only for the purpose of a smooth transitions.

Hope this help you.

The best way would be to use a pry bar. Try to use one with a wide flat end. Also try to lift only a little at a time trying to lift as much of the board in one piece as you can. Once you start getting it up you should be able to use your hands at this point and just lift and pull it right out.

Reminder, once all the boards are up, make sure you remove and nails or in your case staples.
