Hi there,

I originally asked you a question on youtube as "tod99cj" yesterday and I had a few more questions for you. This is a great site, by the way!

Since it's Thanksgiving weekend and all the stores are having great deals, I'm probably going to be buying the glueless wood laminate click flooring from lowes. It is 77 cents a sq ft, and I know you said that you shouldn't buy the cheapest stuff, but my budget won't allow anything else. In fact I've been waiting for a sale like this so I can cover my ugly linoleum!

I will be installing the floor in my foyer and my kitchen. My kitchen is about 15X10 and my foyer is about 8X6, with a closet. I will need a saw right? A miter saw, or a circular saw? I am a new homeowner and the only tool I have is a table saw, and I'm assuming this won't work. I'm hoping you'll tell me otherwise! Is it ok to install this directly over my existing vinyl as long as I clean it really well? It is slab underneath the vinyl. What type of underlayment should I get? I'm also very confused about the edges, particularly under my front door and also in front of the cabinets. My house is 6 years old and I'm pretty sure they laid the vinyl then installed the cabinets, so I don't have 1/4 round anywhere. Will I have to install it in front of my cabinets now?

Sorry, I know that's a lot questions...

Thanks!!!
Jill

HI how are you..

Any laminate flooring will work just fine. sure you can go right on top of you your existing floor, I do that all the time. Believe it or not my favorite tool to use to cut laminate floor is a jig saw. A table saw would only be good for cutting the flooring long ways and not very safe at that.

Around all your edges you will either to remove the base trim you know have or better and easier would be to install 1/4 round the new floor edges. In front of your cabinets (toe kick) do the same. No biggie at all..

The front door could be a tricky one. For the most I just use a 1/4 round but that could be to big. Then use a flat stock trim board. You will also want to cut down your your trim on your doors so the laminate can go under it. You can do this by marking it the thickness of your laminate, laying a board on the floor next to the trim and the just mark it. Once marked use a hand saw and cut the trim piece off, real easy.. Then if you can start your flooring on at the doors, or other wise you will have to remove the trim before installing the floor. Hope this helps you.. Please free to ask me if you need any more help.. Also read my other post her on laminate flooring...

Regards... Dominick Happy Thanksgiving
