How to install Dricore basement sub floor

5/5 - (4 votes)

Dricore helps keep the basement floor dry.

Dricore flooring is really a good idea for a basement subfloor. However, get ready to dish out a few bucks. As the average basement floor could cost you around $1,200. Although it could well be worth it. But not all basements need this type of flooring.

The old fashion way would be to frame up the floor for 2x’s and plywood. This type of flooring goes together with really no tools at all. I mean besides cutting where needed. To the underside of these panels are raised plastic nubs that allow any water to just sit there undetected for a very long time. Allowing mold to just grow and grow. But on the other hand, it also allows airflow to dry out. Of course, this is if you have any.

Although a great concept just not for every basement floor. Dricore is not intended for wet basements but rather for dry basements.

  1. gotta question. we are installing dricore subflooring and 12 mm laminate in our basement. we have two castiron radiators in two of the rooms. should we raise the rads to install the flooring or can we work it around the rad legs?

    • I would raise the heaters and than place them on top of the flooring. However this is not always an easy task. So in short, if you can do it. If you can’t you can’t.

Cutting the flooring around the legs won’t be easy either. In some cases I’ve made a square outline around the heater legs. But that doesn’t always look nice either.

  2. Have you used the new dricore system and if so how do you decide which one is the best choice for you. The new dricore system is 1 inch instead of 7/8. It is not tongue and groove. It has an rf value of 3 instead of 1.7 (tongue and groove). With the best choice also goes with adding flooring over top and does the new stuff slide a little bit making it harder or is it the same and rf value to make it warmer the better choice.
