Fireplace Mantel
This is a series of pictures taken while making this fireplace mantel. Like I say in the video I really just winged it. I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like but really didn’t know where I was going. And that’s Ok. Most projects start out that way. You know what you want but you’re just not that sure. Hey, you can always start over, right ?.
Cutting the boards on a 45 makes a much nicer join. If done right, you won’t even be able to see it. Otherwise, you will see the ugly grain end of the board. Cutting this is very easy with a table saw set on a 45-degree angle.
Just placing some of the boards to get an idea of what I was looking for. This way I could just make easy changes or adjustments as I go.
Just a hollow box is what you end up with. But don’t tell anyone. It’s a great place to hide stuff.
Very important that you use everything. Nails alone are just not good enough.
And the finished product just the way I wanted it. I think anyway.

I used poplar wood and already made bought from Home Depot design crown moulding. Wood router and a table saw
