Hi,
I have a detached garage with a full 100 amp sub panel. I need a 40amp 220v circuit for an air compressor. So, I bought a 70-amp sub panel and was wondering if this method is correct? I would remove 1 or 2 circuits in the subpanel and put in a 70-amp breaker. I would relocate the breaker(s) I removed from the sub and then add the 40-amp breaker to the new sub panel I need for the compressor.

Yeah sounds good to me. Just add up the breakers (amps) that you will be drawing on.
