Fire pit and Concrete Patio

I have a poured concrete patio (4″ thick) that the contractor left a 2′ diameter hole for us to add a simple fire pit to. We will be putting in a 3-course circular paver wall around the 2′ hole. My question is; What should (if anything) do I need to do to insulate the concrete patio sides from the direct heat of the fire?

    Nothing really. It’s block and concrete, the same way a fireplace is built.
