3-way dimmer

Please briefly explain why you feel this question should be reported.

I have a regular 3 way switch by the back door and a 3 way dimmer by the entry into my basement. They control one light. Since installing the dimmer  (replaced regular switch), the switch by the back door must remain in the on position in order for the dimmer switch to work?

Is this right or did the wires not get hooked up right?

    yeah sounds like you have something not hooked up right for sure.
