What is a pump-up septic system?
A pump in the tank is needed when gravity it won’t work. In other words when the field is higher than the tank.
The system begins with the actual septic tank. This is where all the solids go and stay. From there only the liquid with exit this tank into a pump up tank. These tanks are ussaly smaller than the solid tank, but not much smaller.
Pump and floats.
The pump in this tank is a very heavy duty pump, There will be at least three floats that are set to the specs by the design engeerer. These floats are all the same but set at different levels. So you’ll have at least a on float, off float and a alarm float. All these floats and the pump are wired to a control box, ussaly mounted inside but the can be outside.
Setting the levels
These levels are determined by the design engineer. A septic tank is always filled to the top. But the pump-up tank is not like that. I’ve never seen one filled more than half way. But then again it depends. The system is set to pump a set amount.
