Do you mind explaining why my proposed set up does not work? From my understanding of electricity… it seems sound; but I do recognize I am not an expert (maybe I know enough to be dangerous). In my field of expertise I know that codes are sometimes written to be “idiot proof” to the point of preventing things that work.

I think knowing the detail of why this should not should not be done will help me and other diy’ers have a better understanding.
