After a lot of rain in the Midwest, discovered the sump pump in basement causing water to seep in around the edges and carpet got wet. Is the carpet automatically toast? What would be a good replacement?

    If there is padding under the carpet the only way to really dry it out is to remove the padding a carpet and let it dry out.

    If there isn’t padding or if the padding is attached you can rent a carpet cleaner and suck out as much of the water as you can. It will take many passes but it will come out.
