Connection: 2 wire to 3 wire

Please briefly explain why you feel this question should be reported.

I’m swapping out my drop lights. When I cut the old one off I noticed it only had two wires…even though the reels power cord was a 3 pronged cord. The new light had a grounded cord also. Can I make the connection by ignoring the ground wire on the new light since the reel has a grounded cord.
