How to tape Sheetrock
Taping is something one hand most of us will try it once and, on the other hand, most won’t.
If you understand the basics you’ll be on your way in no time. If you’ve ever tried covering a cake with icing and you’ll fuss and fuss with it until you get just the way you like it. Well, not this time. That’s where everyone will fail. Taping is like a one-shot deal. Place the joint compound “Spackle” where you want it and go. Maybe a little touch-up afterward but don’t keep doing it.
Placing the tape
Now we have fresh sheetrock and you’re ready for the first coat. Place the joint compound where the tape will go. Make this at least 1/8″ thick. More I ok. But the tape in place. Hold your taping knife about a 30-degree angle and go. Start from one side to the other. Don’t stop, just go. One the first coat “the tape coat” You can go back over it as many times as you need to. But this is only true for the first coat.
Nails or Screws
Make sure all your nails or screws are in good. The last thing you want is to be taping and notice you have a screw too high. It just makes a bigger mess.
