I currently have a 60 amp panel with (4) fuses in my detached garage and would like to update the panel with circuit breakers and main disconnect. The feed wires are #6 copper to the existing 60 amp panel. It seems that most suppliers have 100 amp main disconnect load centers and no 60 amp with main disconnect load centers. Will code allow wiring a 100 amp panel with existing #6 wire; if not, what do you recommend? I only need a total of 4 circuits in the garage and really don’t need 100 amp capacity.

As long as the breaker supplying the sub panel is 60 amp or less you’ll be fine. So no matter what you’re not going to be able to pull more than that 60 amp.
